There are many ways to help bats. Here are a few!

1.) Spread knowledge

One of the main threats to bats is fear and misinformation. Learn all you can about bats, and help others understand the roles the creatures play in our world. Here are a few links that can help you talk to people about bats, especially when it comes to correcting misinformation:

2.) Support wild habitats

Bats need homes, just like every other organism. Support natural spaces likes preserves and state parks, and leave dead trees undisturbed in your own neighborhood or home (as long as they do not create a safety hazard).

3.) Install and/or report a bat box!

Bats boxes are artificial houses for bats. You can buy or build one, and install it on your property to help provide a home for bats where wild habitat is scarce! Nature preserves and parks are often willing to work with volunteers to install bat boxes, too. For more info on bat boxes, click here.

You can also help track bat populations by reporting bat boxes to this site's up-and-coming NYS Bat Box Registry, and/or to the Appalachian Bat Count!

4.) Donate to reputable bat conservation groups

There are many groups that are currently working hard to help protect bats. You can help their efforts! Check out some of these links to see how:
